Using the TIFF files generated by Tanach on Demand is not difficult,
but requires three steps:
1. Download the TIFF file. (Read how.)
2. Insert the TIFF file into your document. If you are using
Microsoft Word, you can do this by clicking on "Insert" from the top
list of menus, "picture" from the sub-menu, and then "From File..."
from the sub-sub-menu. Most other word-processing programs support
TIFF images.
3. However, most programs, including Microsoft Word, will insert the
TIFF file at the wrong size, so you have to resize the image. (Word
does a particularly bad job.) If you see a grossly distorted image,
perhaps resembling a bar code, you know you have to resize the image a
lot.
You'll get the best image if you resize it to 600dpi.
Microsoft Word is one of the programs that gives you a grossly
distorted TIFF image and furthermore doesn't let you set the dpi of an
image, but you can change its size. To do this, click on the image
after you insert it into your document. Then click and drag the black
square at the upper right corner of the imgae to make the image much
smaller. Finally, click and drag the black square at the middle right
of the image to make the image much wider. You may have to repeat
this process a few times to get the image to the size you requested.
Once you get good at this, it only takes a few seconds. (If anyone
discovers how to make Word behave better, please let us know!)
The Tanach on Demand TIFF files are graphics files, so you can view
the Hebrew they contain without installing any extra Hebrew software
on your computer.
